Current Writing Process

Hello, I felt like sharing my current writing process that I have been using for my latest work, Elwin’s Last Stand. At the very beginning of the process, I worked out the timeline between the first entry and this new story, then I created a basic outline. Because I was writing it to fit a weekly release for 6 months on Channillo like Elwin’s Banishment, I had a framework to use. I wanted to try something new and go into the head of the villain and show both sides of the conflict. First 8 chapters focused on introductions and setting up the narrative. The next 8 allowed me to work on character development between the new and old cast. The final 8 represent the buildup and climax of the story with a prolog at the very end to give it a proper ending.

So, my process with this in mind. I open up a new Word Document and paste the chapter goal from my outline at the top and create a more detailed outline and work through what I want to accomplish.

For example, this is from part 5: Jump pov to the town and the discovery of the town leaders own daughter decided to sneak out again and to set up a patrol to go looking for her

For my notes I focused on who the new characters would be (naming can be a fun experience) and then the major plot points I wanted to touch on:

New characters

-penelo father

Mother Nuala

-rest of the leaders (council of 3)

Morthil (male) Qamara (female)

-hunting party he forms (father plus 5 others)

-father, captain of the hunters, best 3 person hunter squad.

Morthil (male) Qamara (female) Zeno (council)

Zeno, Nuala, penelo (family)

Abarat(captain), Fariane, Ievis and Saida (scouts)

Elwin, Vanima (wolves)

Erlan (nomad who lost brother)

-Talk to capt of the hunters then meet with council to relay info and gather hunting party

-find tracks leading unto the forest and follow

-find penelo, act aggressive until elwin puts a stop to that

-come to terms with the truth and decide to go back to town

I work on writing it after that. When I am done with it on Word, I transfer it over to Scrivener because it is a wonderful place to keep everything organized. When it’s ready, I post it on Channillo. I try to keep it consistent at a Wednesday release, but I have been late a few times for the extra-long scenes. Something new I am doing for Elwin’s Last Stand is giving my thoughts on the new release and sometimes talk about what is planned for the future in the series discussion section. I think it would be fun to transfer those thoughts over when I decide to share this story on a different platform.
